Meet Gurreet Brar, the new UCCE Farm Advisor (Nut Crops/Pomology) for Fresno and Madera Counties. Before joining UC Cooperative Extension in January 2013, Gurreet completed his Ph.D. in Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Earlier, he earned his MS Pomology and BS Agriculture from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He believes that among the three pillars of land grant university system, extension is extremely important component when it comes to feeding and clothing the world’s ever growing population. Bringing the best in farm research straight to your orchard will be his primary goal. Our UCCE research and extension programs are focused on the overall development of our production systems.
Gurreet was born and raised in Punjab (North India), which was the cradle of one the earliest agricultural settlements ever, the Indus Valley Civilization. Just like the Central Valley of California, Punjab is one of the most agriculturally productive regions of the world.
Gurreet is very excited to be a part of the UC cooperative extension system and is looking forward to serving you for your information needs regarding Almond, Pistachio and Walnut crops in the Southern San Joaquin Valley.
