Talking about bacterial canker…does the root stock die at the same time as the sion…is not suckers a typical characteristic of the disease…?

  Correct – the rootstock usually survives the onset of bacterial canker. One of the means of diagnosis is to cut below the soil line to see if the tree is still alive. If these trees remain in the ground long enough, they will sucker to account for the loss of the top part of the tree.
